SettleTerms™ Privacy Policy
Effective date: 15 October 2026
The short version
We store what you enter so that you and the other person can come back to it. We never store your answers to the safety questions, and we do not keep your conversations with Neutra™. We do not sell your information and we do not show ads. Nothing you enter is used to train any AI model. We never share it with any law firm, including the one our founder runs. The other person never sees your private work. What we do hold may be requested in a court case, and we will tell you if that happens where the law allows.
You can download everything we hold about your case and you can delete it, from inside the product, at any time.
1. Who is responsible
SettleTerms LLC, a Florida limited liability company (Florida document number L26000498862), 17105 Journeys End Dr, Odessa, FL 33556, operates SettleTerms and is responsible for your information under this policy. Write to privacy@settleterms.com with any question about it.
SettleTerms is built for people whose case is in New York. We do not offer it outside the United States.
2. What we collect
Your account. Your email address, which is how you sign in. We do not use passwords; we email you a link.
What you enter about your case. Your answers to the assessment (about you, your marriage or relationship, your children, your income, your property and debts); the positions you take on each issue; your entries in mediation rounds; the first name you choose for the screens, which can be any name you like and is only what the two of you see on the case; and, if you send an invitation, the other person's email address. If you report a problem with the site, we keep what you wrote and which page you were on.
What we never store.
- Your answers to the safety questions. We record only whether you passed that step, so you are not asked twice. The answers themselves are stripped before anything is written, and the database refuses them if that ever fails.
- Your conversations with Neutra™. They are held in your browser for the visit and are not saved. Come back later and your positions are there; the conversation is not.
- Your card details. Payments are taken by Stripe on Stripe's own page. We keep a record of the payment (the case, the amount, and Stripe's reference) and never the card.
- Your Social Security number. SettleTerms does not ask for it.
Payments. The amount, the date, and Stripe's identifiers for the payment and any refund.
Usage. Our own record of what happens in the product: which screens are reached, which buttons are pressed, when an invitation is opened, and similar events, stamped with which deployment produced them. This is how we know whether the product works and where people get stuck.
Visits. Vercel, which hosts the site, also counts page views for us: which pages are visited, from which website or search engine, from which country, and on what kind of device and browser. It sets no cookie and does not store your IP address; it keeps a hash of your connection for one day to tell one visit from another, then discards it. Before a page view is counted, we remove anything in the address that identifies you or your case, such as an invitation link. We use no advertising trackers.
Technical. Your IP address is used briefly to limit how often anyone can call our services, and is held in memory, not stored. Our hosting provider keeps ordinary server logs, which include IP addresses and the pages requested, for a limited time.
Emails. If you ask for a copy of your case summary by email, we keep your name and email address as you gave them and a record that it was sent. If we are full and you ask to be told when a place opens, we keep your email address for that and nothing else.
3. What we use it for
- To provide the service: to show you your case, to compute the figures, to compare both sets of answers, to run Neutra™, and to produce your report.
- To let the two of you work on one case from separate accounts.
- To email you what the service needs to email you: your sign-in link, the invitation if you send one, a copy of your report if you ask for one, and notices about the service or these terms.
- To take payment and make refunds.
- To find and fix problems, including the ones you report.
- To understand how the product is used, in aggregate, so we can improve it.
- To comply with the law.
We do not use your information for marketing unless you ask us to. We do not sell it, rent it, or share it with anyone for their own purposes.
4. Who sees it
The other person in your case. This is the part that matters most, so it is spelled out.
- They never see your answers to the assessment. Once both of you have answered, each of you sees a comparison built from both sets of answers, phrased for your own side.
- They see the positions you have taken, but only once they have entered their own on the same issue.
- They never see your private conversation with Neutra™.
- In a mediation round, your entry is sealed until theirs is in, and then both are shown to both of you. Your private last word, if you give one, is never shown to them, whatever the outcome.
- They are never told how you answered the safety questions.
- If you decline an invitation, the person who sent it is told only that you are not going ahead.
Neutra™ and its provider. Neutra™ runs on a large language model provided by Anthropic. When you talk with it, what you write, together with the facts of the issue being discussed (the two positions, the relevant figures, and the first names or labels the two of you are known by in the product), is sent to Anthropic to generate the reply. Nothing you enter is used to train any AI model — not by us, and not by Anthropic. We train no models of any kind, and Anthropic's commercial terms bar it from training models on what is sent through its API. Anthropic holds what is sent for the limited time its data processing terms allow, and no longer. Nothing about the safety questions is ever sent.
Law firms, including the founder's. We never share what you enter with any law firm, attorney or mediator — not for a fee, not as a referral, and not on request from one of them. SettleTerms is run by a practicing New York attorney (terms, section 1). His law practice takes no SettleTerms cases and receives nothing you enter here. If you want a lawyer, you choose one yourself, and you decide what to show them.
Service providers who work for us. Each holds only what its job needs, under a contract, and may not use it for anything else:
| Provider | What it does | What it holds |
|---|---|---|
| Vercel | Hosts the site and counts page views | Server logs; page-view counts without names or IP addresses; runs the code |
| Supabase | Database and sign-in | Your account and everything you enter |
| Stripe | Payments | Your card, the payment, your email |
| Resend | Sends our email | The emails we send you, for a limited time |
| Anthropic | Neutra™'s model | Your conversation with Neutra™ and the issue's facts, while generating a reply |
The law. We will disclose information if a subpoena, court order or other valid legal process requires it, or where we believe in good faith that the law requires it or that someone is in danger. If either of you goes to court later, the other side or the court may seek records from us. Where the law allows, we will tell the affected person before we comply.
A successor. If SettleTerms is sold or taken over, your information goes with the service to whoever takes it on, under this policy, and we will tell you.
5. What you can do
All of this is inside the product, on your case page, without asking us:
- Download it. Export everything we hold that is yours to see. The export names what it leaves out (the other person's answers, their sealed entries and last words, and your safety answers, which were never stored) so you are not left guessing.
- Delete it. Delete your case. This removes the case for both of you, and the product tells you so before you confirm. Records we must keep by law, such as payment records, are kept for as long as the law requires and no longer.
- Correct it. Change your answers and positions from within the product.
- Sign out. On any shared computer.
If you want anything else, or cannot get in, write to privacy@settleterms.com and we will help. We may ask you to confirm you are the account holder first.
6. How long we keep it
- Your case stays until you or the other person deletes it.
- Payment records are kept for seven years, as tax and accounting law requires.
- Usage events are kept, and are not tied back to a deleted case.
- Emails we sent are held by our email provider for a limited time and then deleted.
- Backups of the database, where our provider keeps them, roll off within days of a deletion.
7. How we protect it
Everything travels encrypted between your browser and us. The two of you have separate accounts, and the database itself is built so that a request from one account cannot read the other's private rows. Our own staff access to the production database is limited to what is needed to run the service and fix problems, and we look at a case's contents only when you ask us to.
No system is perfectly secure. If we learn of a breach affecting your information, we will notify you and any authority the law requires, as New York and other applicable law provides.
8. Cookies and your browser
We use the cookies the service needs and no others:
- Sign-in cookies, so you stay signed in.
- One cookie that remembers which of your cases you last opened.
- Your browser's own storage, for unsaved drafts and small conveniences, which stays on your device.
We set no advertising or tracking cookies, we do not record your screen or your session, and no advertising network sees what you do inside the product.
9. Children
SettleTerms is for adults. It holds information about your children only because you, their parent, entered it: their ages, and what the two of you decide about their schedule and support. No child has an account, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
10. Where your information is
Our providers store your information in the United States.
11. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will post the new version with a new effective date and, for changes that matter, email you.
